Lori: It's okay to be spiritual even if you're not religious. Don't have any crystals to put under the moon and don't have time to meditate.
00:00:11
Helen: Because that's when life gets fun, becomes fulfilling, and then you discover that it really is okay to be spiritual. Welcome back to the It's okay to Be Spiritual podcast. I'm Helen and this is Lori.
00:00:30
Lori: Hey everyone. Welcome back. So today's our first episode where we're doing a spirit led episode with the cards.
00:00:37
Helen: Completely spirit led. We've got no idea what's coming. Lori is the master shuffler. Well, she was the master shuffler!
00:00:48
Lori: Today Spirit has asked us to talk about lifestyle habits. When you are a spiritual person.
00:00:55
Helen: This card's all about. Do I still drink alcohol? Do I drink coffee if I'm a spiritual person. Can I only drink water?
00:01:06
Lori: I agree, and this is actually really interesting because that was the question I was asking everyone I could find at the start of my journey. Can you drink alcohol? Can you drink alcohol? Because do I have.
00:01:18
Helen: To give up coffee? Seriously?
00:01:21
Lori: But I did find when I go.
00:01:25
Helen: You sound desperate.
00:01:27
Lori: So before my awakening, there was a period where I was enjoying a drink and a few more after that. So when I woke up, my vibration started to change. My awareness was changing, and when I drank, my body would physically shake.
00:01:46
Helen: Wow! For me, I find alcohol just numbs my connection. And I don't like that.
00:01:55
Lori: Yeah, and I do find now. So I have a trick for that.
00:02:00
Helen: Oh!
00:02:01
Lori: You Reiki, you drink, you put some Reiki symbols on your drink, and you clear the energy and you ask those negative lower vibrations and you sweep them out and you'll be surprised what Reiki on a bottle of wine will do.
00:02:16
Helen: Wow. Definitely drinking with you next time. But jokes aside, the choices that you make about your lifestyle habits start to come from a place of - how does it affect my connection? How do I feel they become more empowered choices? So there are no rules here. I don't really think. Like obviously going out every weekend and getting blind isn't the aim of the game.
00:02:43
Lori: Definitely not.
00:02:45
Helen: However, suddenly deciding that the rule is I cannot have a glass of wine ever again. That's that's not it either.
00:02:56
Lori: Agree, and you may find when you open up onto the journey and your connection with the universe is growing and it's stronger, you actually don't want to drink a lot. 1 or 2 is actually a really nice, happy medium and it feels okay in your body and there's no intensity. Um, your stomach feels okay, which was another thing that can happen. Your stomach can turn in knots when alcohol starts processing, but if you're doing it out of love and you're doing it from a place of happiness, if you're drinking to drown sorrows, that's a whole nother story. And that's the devil card from the tarot right there. And that will pop out for you if you do a reading with me. Trust me, and I will see why you are if you're drinking because it's a vice, it's something you're doing to drown something to block something out. But if you're coming from a place of love and you're just having a wine after work on a Friday with some mates having a really great time, there is no reason why you can't continue to do that as you step more into your spiritual self. Um.
00:03:57
Helen: You know, it comes back to that thing, doesn't it? All in moderation, you know, all in all in your empowered choices. I reckon you do some that up really nicely. What about coffee? I still drink coffee.
00:04:11
Lori: I didn't drink coffee for 40 years. Then we moved into this amazing office for my husband's business, and there was a fantastic coffee shop next door. And I will drink one dirty chai on almond.
00:04:26
Helen: A week! Oh my God, we can't be friends.
00:04:31
Lori: So I do enjoy a coffee. Um, because it's very adult like, but I don't, I don't.
00:04:38
Helen: Toddler!
00:04:38
Lori: I am the spiritual toddler and it makes me a little hyper at times, and I get jittery and I draw on the walls with texta.
00:04:48
Helen: Um, I find for me that the coffee, um, you know, the whole spiritual journey has made me more sensitive to everything. So I still enjoy coffee, but I can only have one. And I can only, you know, like, if you order a cappuccino, it has two shots of coffee in it. I can't take that much coffee. I can only take one shot of coffee. I drink it black. I don't add anything to it. Um, but I still enjoy it. But I'm getting exceptionally fussy. Total coffee snob.
00:05:20
Lori: Let's go on to another lifestyle choice for spiritual people, which really will divide us. And we're already divided on the couch over this. Eating meat.
00:05:30
Helen: Oh, look. Oh, dear. What was that TV show?
00:05:37
Lori: So I still eat meat. I don't have any issues with eating meat. I know a lot of spiritual people say that they can't handle ingesting the lower vibration of meat when they're on the journey. I've been told that there will come a point where my body will start rejecting meat products. Um, but at this point in time, in my toddler phase, um, I'm still okay to eat meat.
00:06:01
Helen: Um.
00:06:03
Helen: We're not that well. I mean, we are different. I don't eat meat anymore and haven't done for somewhere around ten years. Um, more. I really can't remember when that was, Uh, at the time, it was a wellbeing choice. Um, my husband and I were a little fat, to be honest. Like, a lot fat. And, um, we needed to make some really dramatic changes. So, um, I fessed up to him and said, you know, ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to be vegetarian, but I grew up on a on a beef property. You know, there was that wasn't an option, let alone, uh, like a. Hi, Mum, I'd like just vegetables for dinner. Perhaps it was part of the spiritual journey, you know, like, if I'd wanted that since I was a little girl. So, anyway, now I'm sort of a vegan, vegetarian vegan, and, um. Yeah. Anyway, that was a really long answer to you can eat meat when you're on the spiritual journey. There are no rules. Just always follow your intuition. You know, if you want to cut out meat, eat less meat and eat more vegetables. Do it. Okay. There really aren't any rules other than to listen. What? What other things are? Detox or intox I put on this card. Like, to me, the spiritual journey is a massive detox. Detox of bad thoughts. Detox of bad lifestyle habits, detox of bad connections. You know, even your clothing changes a little bit.
00:07:47
Lori: Absolutely. Yeah. That's an amazing contrast to look at with lifestyle choices. I definitely have detox, massive mindset change, and that's nice to think of it as a detox because it wasn't something that you needed. And so you're able to let that go and letting it out of your body. And so I definitely have seen a mindset detox on the journey. And it isn't sometimes optional. I think it just comes along with the pathway. You know, you don't intentionally go, I'm going to change my mindset, but you just want to and your vibration is shifting at the same time. So while you're letting go of all these these things that you used to enjoy, other things need to replace that space that you've opened up. And so that's when all the good vibes come in and, you know, you can share different activities with friends. Now, if you used to be really heavily into partying, maybe you play tennis with your friends once a week on a Friday night.
00:08:41
Helen: Speaking of self, are we good or you may is not necessarily speaking about Lori. You may get out in nature more often, or you may spend more time with the dog and go to the dog park and.
00:08:54
Lori: And bush walks. A really beautiful to do. You can't do a bush walk and enjoy it when you're super hung over and we're out to 4 a.m..
00:09:01
Helen: No. It goes back to that very first thing. When you ask me, what does spirituality mean to me? And I said, it means getting to know unconditional love because love is beautiful. So your lifestyle habits literally become more beautiful, more loving, kinder, more compassionate, more thoughtful to others. More beautiful on my journey. Our lifestyle habits had substantially changed. Well, like I said, because we were fatty oompa loompas and we needed to change that. So we went on this entire health journey that then led into the spiritual or amplified the spiritual journey. It wasn't definitely wasn't the start, but it it. Yeah. So why don't you answer the first? There's something that's really real. I think before 4 am's, I think we heard the confession before.
00:09:59
Lori: I think one thing just recently, obviously, in the under two years that I've had to review this, there's a event in Toowoomba that's really big. The Toowoomba Food and Wine Festival that I was very was the highlight of my year. Every year I would be singing about this event for months, for the 11 months leading up to it, and then the one month after, I would say that's the best day of the year and I've just had it. And so it would involve sitting outside in the sun drinking endless bottles of wine. It never ended well, and this year, in fact, was the second Spiritual Fair that we did. And when Michael told me the Spiritual Fair was on the same date as the food and wine, I knew The Universe was testing me to see how much I had changed, because having to make a decision for being going to this festival for ten years to make the choice not to go to that now, was actually really big for me. Um, everyone has their own thing, right? So this was my thing, and it actually wasn't a hard decision because this is who I am now, and I'm not like, I enjoy a drink, but that's that's not what I want to be anymore. And being able to read cards and to sit with people in that healing space and to offer my services and be with like minded people in the community is absolute. I'm getting goosebumps as I say this. Like, this is who I am meant to be and what I am here for. And that other stuff was just part of me. Before that was part of my journey. And now every time, if you say, do you want to drink wine in the park or read cards, I will read cards.
00:11:39
Lori: Yeah, it speaks volumes, doesn't it. But it really for me, it always just comes back to you that what's going to make me feel better, what's going to hold my connection? What's going to keep me smiling?
00:11:53
Helen: And so as we wrap up this episode, we would like you to think about your lifestyle choices. And is there a choice that you would like to change and what would you like to replace that with? Because once you start to remove these choices from your life, which lessen your connection to The Universe, it will allow space for something new to fill that gap. So what would you like to fill that gap with, and what is it that you're taking out? Well said.
